Trash is minor compared to what Elise’s pal Trump calls people.
I see that there is some gnashing of teeth, and quite a bit of confusion, over what Obama allegedly said at a fundraiser about going too far “left”, etc.
It’s probably too much to expect, but I had hoped that the Democratic party activists would be a bit more sophisticated than the Trumpers.
Obama in private is erudite; public persona have to be dumbed down. So if Obama in private is giving a lengthy discussion, I expect it to be nuanced with a lot of pros and cons for any talking point.
Obama himself I always thought was a bit conservative, quite the opposite of the hate-right who wanted to characterize him as some sort of communist radical.
The reality is that one has to get elected, and in a country dominated by superstition and ancient beliefs, we have to deal with the reality that a strict modernist is going to be in a minority. Thus we need to find ways of triangulating between poles in the polity.

The biggest obstacle is that just don’t see him trusting Pence to pardon him after resigning. I mean, I wouldn’t.
But yeah, it would definitely play well with a certain element of the cult how Trump sacrificed everything including his health and the Democrats were just so unfair and mean that his body finally gave out under the stress of MAGAing so hard.

My peak weight was probably 260 and at 5’11” I still never looked as fat as Trump. Now part of that is I also have a large frame so I carried it well but I was still obese. I began the year at around 250 lbs and at my February doctor’s appointment I weighed in at 243, nine months of diet and exercise later I’m sitting exactly at 200 lbs with plans to slowly lose another twenty.

Trump’s problem is his greatest current strength, that he does in fact lead a cult. But it’s not his cult and not exactly Trump per se that the cult worships, but power. These same fucks loved Bush right up until the point where he wasn’t powerful and worshiping him wasn’t useful anymore. A small, possibly significant faction will continue to treat Trump like a God, but most on the right will move on and retcon their past support as simply necessary to own the libs. I think you’re half right: but I don’t recall GW Bush ever getting made quite the object of political “worship” as The Orange Anus has (and carefully crafted his PR to bolster it). I think a lot of it is that Dubya, for all his manifold failings - and they were/are completely goddamn manifold - based his “appeal” such as it was on exploiting the national freakout over 9/11 mainly in the service of foreign-policy goals*. Trump, OTOH, as we’ve seen, doesn’t give a crap about foreign affairs, except as ego-boosting: his political “appeal” is grounded almost exclusively in domestic issues. Unfortunately for the country, the main “issue” he flogs at every opportunity is fundamentally anger and resentment that racism/white-supremacy/ethnonationalism, inextricably linked with inflexible religious fanaticism, is no longer a dominating operating system for this country. The segment of the populace that buys into this extremist viewpoint is sadly, too large to ignore: and moreover, has invested (at least AFAICT) a lot more psychic energy in the notion of Trump As Savior than in prior years.
I think a lot of the Right will “move on”; but I think there will still be a large group “out there” unwilling to accept their Gilded God-Emperor being tossed out on his ass - or even resigning - without at least thinking of resorting to violence to make their disappointment known. I really hope I’m wrong, though.
* I never got the feeling, frex, that Dubya was particularly bigoted or hateful in terms of policy (viz. his failed immigration-reform proposals): for Trump, OTOH, the hate is all he’s really got.

(One of my biggest pet peeves are people who think they “work out” by playing golf. It’s barely activity- just look at Jack Nicklaus’s gut. It’s like saying, “of course I exercise! I play darts!”)
(ETA: I will admit that some of my opinion is colored by the class divisions that informed the sport when I was growing up in a highly economically stratified area. There were basically two classes: those who golfed, because their very well off parents could pay for such things, and those who were left spending their time in shity public “parks”, hoping they could avoid trouble from the police or the gangs for at least one more day. I have similar problems with skiing, but I promise I’ll try and keep a lid on that for the sake of the enthusiasts hereabouts. ;) )
I still value the times, during my last stint at DOJ, when we were enforcing the law in ways that made Democratic elected officials mad, those folks called the White House to complain, and @EricHolder had our backs. He knew our job was to enforce the law without favor.
